God Gives Much, But He Requires Much
Many people believe that God gives much and requires little, that he’s not all that concerned with how we act or what we think or what we say. This couldn’t be further from the truth, however, and it’s important to know why. If you want to experience the fullness of life in Christ, you need to understand just how much God has given us in his Son, and just how much he requires of us in return.
To whom much is given, from him shall be much required. – Luke 12:48
From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him, He will ask all the more. – Luke 12:48: God gives us many things, some more than others. When he is extra generous, He expects much from us in return. He expects us to be good stewards of the gifts he gives us. If we are selfish, it’s like we spit in His face and His generosity. In His sermon of the sheep and the goats, He is clear we are to feed the poor, visit the sick and jailed, clothes the naked and give water to the thirsty.
Think about what you have received
Money doesn’t buy happiness. Health isn’t everything. A lot of friends are not necessarily a good thing. Your family isn’t all you need in life. What have you received that you don’t need? What have you received that could make your life better? There is a reason God gave you these gifts and they don’t include putting them on a shelf to collect dust. Are there things in your life right now that will help others? How can you share what God has given you with those around you? How can giving back be part of your new year resolution?
Don’t take anything for granted
Don’t assume that your friends, family, and neighbors will be there to support you when times get tough. Be sure to thank them for their help in a concrete way. Whether it’s with a kind note or with an offer of help if they ever need it themselves, we should never take things for granted—not even our relationships. Thanks to those who have helped you. Offer to reciprocate in some way if they ever need your help.
Giving Back to God
By far, one of my favorite ways to give back to God is by tithing. According to a Bible verse found in Malachi 3:10-11 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do, says God Almighty, I will open up heaven for you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams. Note that we should bring our tithes not only because God commands it but also because he promises blessing and benefit.
Our Amazing Gift from Him
The Bible says that God gave us a huge gift – His only Son! In fact, he died for our sins. Jesus was God’s perfect son and even though he committed no sin he was killed on a cross. The good news is that through him we can have our sins forgiven. Just ask him to forgive you of your sins and trust in him as your savior and redeemer.
